The US National SWAT Championships will inaugurate a National TacMed Championship and hold a Advanced TacMed Seminar on 17 & 18 October at the US Shooting Academy in Tulsa, OK. These activities will be held in conjunction with the annual USNSC and will be world class in nature and professionally managed.

The USNSC has appointed Dr. Ryan Lewis, MD to the position of Medical Director and Tactical Medicine (TacMed) Program Director of the USNSC. He will oversee all aspects of the USNSC TacMed Program and medical care for competitive teams. Dr. Lewis is an emergency medicine physician, a national authority on tactical medicine and Emergency Medical Services, a member of national TEMS organizations and serves on several tactical medicine committees. He is also a sworn member of the Jackson/Hinds, Mississippi, SWAT Team as both an operator and the lead tactical physician.

John "Duffy" McAnallen, EMT-P will be the Chief of TacMed Operations for the USNSC. Duffy is the Director of the Emergency Medical Services Authority for the Tulsa, Oklahoma region and President-elect of the Oklahoma Emergency Medical Technicians Association (OEMTA). He is also an Advanced Deputy and member of the Tulsa County Sheriff's SWAT Team and the Tactical Medical Team Commander. Duffy will serve as Course Marshall for the National TacMed Championships.

Training
The Advanced TacMed Seminar will be held on 17 October. It is an 8-hour block of instruction that includes four hours of classes on tactical triage, emergency medical procedures, and rescue/extraction platforms. The second 4-hour block will be live fire defensive weapons training for TEMS providers. Weapons training will cover pistols and carbines.

The Advanced TacMed Seminar will be limited to 40 individuals on a "first come first in" basis. The fee for the seminar will be $150 per person. Teams registered to compete in the National TacMed Championships will be able to attend the Advanced TacMed Seminar without charge. They are will be required to attend the live fire portion of the Advanced TacMed Seminar.

Seminar instructors will be some of the top tactical medics and weapons trainers in the nation, provider-officers who have vast experience in TacMed operations with both SWAT and military Special Operations units. They are from the cutting edge of the TacMed field. Competition
The first National TacMed Championships will be held on 18 October. It will consist of two live-fire rescue stages designed to test basic emergency medical skill, physical fitness, teamwork, and weapons employment. The competition requires a two-person team one of whom must be a certified medical provider assigned to support a tactical unit. Both must be from the same jurisdiction/unit. Teams do not have to attend the seminar to compete in the Championships, however, all competitors must attend the live fire portion of the training. Team fee for the Championships is $300 per team.

Stages will be conducted in full tactical gear (helmet, eye & ear protection, vest, BDU and boots) require victim rescue and include weapons employment. The Officer Rescue stage will be run head-to-head event. All team equipment, medical expendables, and weapons for the competitive events will be provided. Teams will provide their own ammunition. Individual "good bags" will be provided to each competing officer.

Trophies and prizes will be awarded for each stage and overall for the top three teams.

Eligibility
The Advanced TacMed Seminar and is open to any certified EMS provider (EMT, Paramedic, Nurse, NP, MD) who is affiliated with a tactical unit.

National TacMed Championship competitors must be from, and currently assigned to support, or be members of, the same law enforcement tactical unit. Teams may be from any level of law enforcement: local, state or federal. At least one team member must be a certified medic (any level: EMT, PM, Nurse, MD) assigned to a tactical unit. Teams with one medic and one SWAT officer and/or two medics are permitted. Two non-medical officers are not permitted. Teams that violate the eligibility requirements will be disqualified and not permitted to compete.

Weapons and Ammunition
Individuals may and should bring their own duty weapons and ammunition to the TacMed Training Seminar. For medics who are unarmed by policy the USNSC has a limited number of weapons that may be provided. Individuals that use USNSC ammunition for training must pay for it prior to training.

The USNSC has secure, ATF approved storage at the US Shooting Academy for weapons free of charge.
